CRRA Presentation 2023: Doubling Organics Recycling Rates in Salinas

Chelsea Nelson, our Project Manager, is presenting at the 2023 California Resource Recovery Association Conference this week! The California Resource Recovery Association, founded in 1974, is California’s statewide recycling association and one of the oldest and largest non-profit recycling organizations in the country. Their membership is composed of cities, counties, municipal districts, businesses, hauling companies, material processors, non-profit organizations, state agencies, and allied professionals aimed at achieving environmental sustainability through zero waste strategies.

We were brought on to assist the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (SVSWA) in meeting new SB 1383 requirements to increase residential proper organics disposal rates. We did this by using the community-based social marketing (CBSM) process and pilot testing different strategies. Through our research we found that providing countertop pails to residents more than doubled organics recycling rates!

Chelsea can’t wait to discuss this project at CRRA, answer questions, and meet other conference attendees.

We’re proud to be a leader in the CBSM space and share our insights to create safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities.
